Description
The North Carolina Tri-weekly Standard reported on the Alexandria Municipal election that approximately 1,000 Freedmen voted. Radical Republicans argued that Freedmen had the right to vote under the Reconstruction Acts. Governor Pierpont believed that Freedmen were able to vote. Nevertheless, the commissioners of the election argued that Freedmen could not vote until after the end of the Virginia Reconstruction.
